9u Wellingnton Warriors Takes USSSA Hawks Spring Tune-up Tournament
The Wellington Warriors 9u defeated the West Pines Cobras by a score of 17-3 to
win the 2009 Weston Spring Tuneup Tournament. The Warriors defeated some pretty
good ball clubs along the way. The Wellington Warriors had to bounce back from
a blowout lost to the Miami Legends in their second seeding game Friday night.
Warrior pitchers walked 14 batters and committed 4 errors losing to the Legends
16-1. After completing of the seeding games the Warriors received some great
pitching performances for the remainder of the weekend. Xavier Smith and Jacob
Mercado received game balls as they anchored the Warriors pitching rotation
leading the Warriors to victories over the Miramar Canes,Weston Hawks, Pembroke
Lakes Bulldogs, and West Pines Cobras. Not to be left out, Kyle Bowman received
a game ball with his dominating performance against the undefeated Florida
Pokers in route to a 13-3 win. The Wellington Warriors defense on the infield
was led by Xavier Edwards ss, and Jason Fox 2b making spectacular plays on the
infield. The Warriors defense in the outfield was led by Jacob Weiss rf, Ethan
Levi rcf, and Xavier Smith lcf. Jacob Weiss led all outfielders with 5 nice
catches from his rightfield position. The pitching performances were solidified
by solid catching from Will Anglin and Jacob Mercado. The Warriors offense
totaled 59 runs in their 6 ball games. Every Wellington player contributed at
least one basehit if not more during the course of the tournament. The
following players contributed extra base hits in the tournament. Jacob Weiss,
Ethan Levi, Andrew Johnson, Nick "Mailbox" Adams, Kyle Bowman, Will Anglin, and
Xavier Smith, and Xavier Edwards. Xavier Edwards led all hitters with 13 hits
during the course of the tournament. The Warriors, runners up during the Fall
2008 Florida Premier Baseball League have captured the last 2 USSSA tournaments
they have entered going 10-1 in the process. Congratulations to the Wellington
Warriors coaching staff and team on a fine tournament. The Warriors would also
like to thank the Weston Hawks for putting on such a great event. We look
forward to returning and competing against the best South Florida has to offer.
