The North Broward Thunder 13u defeated the Sandlot by a score of  9-2 to win the 2009 Weston Hawks Spring Tune-up Tournament. The Thunder defeated some excellent ball clubs along the way and went 5-0 for the entire tournament. The Thunder started the tournament  in pool play by defeating the Parkland Pokers, West Boward Falcons and the Weston hawks to seed 3rd for the elimination round. In the elimination round the Thunder defeated the Weston Rattlers Black and then was on to the championship game. Coach Mike Mckenna says it was some fantastic pitching by Tyler Horn who had 6 k’s, Alex Ernestine  with 12 k’s and then to come in and seal the deal was Jordan “Mariano” Miller who had 5 k’s.with a team E.R.A of 2.41. The Bats were ALIVE said coach Mckenna. Leading the way was Blayne Baker who hit an amazing .615 through 5 games with 8 RBI’s. Followed by Cody Schooley , Manny Rojas, Michael McKenna, Cory Thomas, Dalton Jugovic and Tyler Horn who all hit .333 or better with a combined 26 RBI’s. Overall the Team hit .357 and scored 38 runs. Defensively the team was outstanding with 3 throw outs to the plate from the centerfield by Manny Rojas. Jack Scala, Eddie Torres, Ricky Cerrito, William Simpson and Matthew Messina all contributed to the team’s outstanding performance. We are looking forward to a rewarding season in the F.P.B.L and many great years to come!
