SF Bombers take the title

The South Florida Bombers 11U team, behind the strong pitching effort of Colton Welker, defeated the Plantation Stars 11U by a score of 12-2 Sunday morning for the Consolation Championship game hosted by the Weston Hawks.

The Bombers had defeated the HH Thunder and the Sunrise All Stars on Saturday morning, and in the afternoon the Stars posted victories against the PL Bulldogs and the Weston Hawks to set up this game.

Welker pitched a gem in the run-rule shortened four-inning game.  After giving up a lead off double to C. Faldetta, Welker struck out the next five batters.  Of the sixteen batters he faced in the game, he recorded seven strikeouts.

The Bombers scored three in the first, highlighted by back-to-back extra base hits by Jesse Steinberg and Carlos Perez.  An eight run second inning by the Bombers put the game out of reach as the Bombers collected seven hits, including Steinberg’s second triple of the game.  They added another run in the third.  Perez went 3 for 3, while Steinberg and Welker also had multi-hit efforts.

But it was the pitching of Welker that took center stage as he had excellent command of his fast ball.  The Stars scored twice in their last at-bat as Faldetta collected his second hit to lead off the inning.  The ten-run rule applied as Welker struck out the final two batters leaving E.J. Roger stranded at second.
