The 13U West Pines Cobras split a double header on Sunday against division rival South Florida Scorpions.

Game 1 went to the Cobras, 7-0, as Adam Murray pitched 5 shutout innings, and Christian Abad came in and closed the game pitching the last 2 innings. Zack Smith and Carlos Valdez provided most of the offense with key 2 run doubles.

Game 2 went to the Scorpions, 11-7, although the Cobras led 4-1 going into the 4th inning. Cobras starting pitcher Nick Picinini left the game after 3 innings after feeling the affects of the South Florida heat. Walks and errors did the Cobras in after that, as well as a monster 3 run HR by the Scorpions’ Hernando Sierra that put them up for good.

It’s still early in the season, but the competition is very even in this division. The best is yet to come.
