FLORIDA POKERS 11U TAKE FALL BASH TOURNAMENT

The Florida Pokers 11U Team won their 2nd Fall 2012 Tournament Championship on Sunday, as they completed their 5-0 Tournament Record in defeating the South Florida Cobras & Margate Titans with 8-0 and 10-6 Wins respectively!   The Semi-Finals game featured the pitching of Co-MVP Toler and the offense of Co-MVP Torres, as well as Richie Pena, Chris Satcher, Tim Manning, Luis Fuentes & Toler in defeating the Cobras.  But this game was determined by the late game timely hitting and aggressive base running, as the Pokers changed the entire game in the 4th Inning with Torres, Manning, Pratt, Pena, and Fuentes scoring runs as a result of delayed steals and a 2-RBI squeeze-play bunt by Jet Lica!  The Pokers trademark continued from its last tournament, as their Team played outstanding Defense throughout again.  The Championship game entailed several lead changes early, but the Pokers strung together enough hits to push the lead to 10-4 going into the 6th and that was enough to finish the job for another title.  Once again, the Co-MVP’s and their Coaches were quick to deflect all credit to their Teammate’s outstanding defensive effort and offensive output as the reason for their success.  Notably, catchers Chris Satcher, Logan Rueben, and Sawyer Feller kept all base runners in check and Shortstops Keanu Torres, Justin Gonzalez, and J.J. Toler played the entire tournament without error.  The Pokers overall effort in the Semi-Final and Championship Games were characterized by Manager John Calabrese as “Complete Team Wins in all aspects…Every player on our roster came through at critical times when clutch plays were most needed!  Whether it was timely hits (such as the lone tournament Homerun by Chris Satcher), double plays from the outfield, catchers throwing out base-runners, or consistent and cerebral infield & outfield play throughout the tournament”.   Calabrese went on to note the outstanding pitching efforts of Trevor Kole (complete game shutout in the 1st elimination game), Richie Pena, Michael Pratt, Tim Manning, Nick Anello, and J.J. Toler as the anchors which secured win after win in this Tournament!”  Although absent from Saturday’s games, the Pokers received both defensive and offensive contributions from Colin Flynn on Sunday…The Total Team effort of the Pokers allowed for their #1 Seed into the elimination round for the 3rd  consecutive tournament and they now prepare for the USSSA Fall Nationals in Vero Beach next weekend.

Manager John Calabrese added, “This Team continues to grow closer each week and one of our major challenges as Coaches is ensuring they all get substantial playing time to contribute to the Team’s success.  We also have 3 full-time Football Players who have dedicated themselves to Football and Baseball for this Fall and their commitment to this Team is unbelievable!   I can honestly say that we are thrilled to have all our players as Florida Pokers, particularly these boys who balance so much with so little time.  My only thought is “God Bless those Boys & their Parents…we feel very blessed to have them a part of our young Family”.   The Pokers are just beginning their journey, but the Team’s owner (Lenny Roberts), Coaches Calabrese, Toler, Lica, Satcher, Feller, and all the boys’ outstanding Parents believe this is maturing into a very special group that can become a State and National contender.   Congratulations to the Florida Pokers 11U Players, Coaches and dedicated Parents who all make this possible!  GREAT JOB & GO POKERS!!
