CEREDO-KENOVA -- Fans traveling with the North Springs (Fla.) age 9-10 baseball all-star team order their hamburgers one way -- with extra Mayo.

North Springs leadoff hitter Coby Mayo capped an impressive tournament by hitting two grand slam home runs in the top of the second inning to lead the Florida state champions from Coral Springs to an emphatic 14-3 win over Anderson American (S.C.) in Wednesday's title game of the Little League Baseball Tournament of State Champions at Mitch Stadium.

"I've never had a grand slam," Mayo said. "This is my first one, and then I get another one that quick. It's just weird."

With North Springs leading 1-0, Mayo came up with the bases loaded early in the second inning and appeared to get under the ball a bit.

However, the powerful Mayo had enough to carry it out of the park over the left-field fence to increase the lead to 5-0.

"I didn't know about that one because I got under it, but the second one I definitely knew," Mayo said.

The first slam stunned Anderson American, and the South Carolina state champs could not recover as North Springs continued to pound out hits and take walks to keep baserunners on.

An RBI single by Mikey Sarkinis loaded the bases once again for Mayo, who this time connected with all of the baseball on a 1-2 pitch, sending it over the batter's eye backdrop in left-center field to put the Florida faithful into a frenzy.

"Two in one inning? That's unbelievable," North Springs manager Frank Kempinger said. "I've never been a part of anything like that. We knew we could play, but we didn't know we could play at this level."

The pair of grand slams were part of a 13-run, eight-hit second inning. The inning alone surpassed the tournament record for runs in a championship game for one team.

Mayo finished the contest 3-for-3 and reached base on all four plate appearances. He also doubled and scored on an RBI single by Timmy Manning to open the game's scoring in the first inning.

Mayo's statistical line for the tournament is one for the ages -- 13 plate appearances, nine hits, one double, three homers. In five games he drove in 14 runs and scored 13.

What's even more impressive is that Mayo might have had more home runs and RBIs added to his total from Tuesday's semifinal, but he pulled three potential homers foul in his first at-bat of the win over Karns (Tenn.).

Wednesday's performance by Mayo and the overall performance by North Springs drew a tip of the cap.

"We went back and watched videos and we knew that he could definitely do that," Anderson American manager Wells Arnett said. "We lost two ballgames and the second inning beat us in both. If you take those away, we had a pretty good tournament. I love every one of these kids like they are my own."

Despite the result of Wednesday's contest, Arnett couldn't have been happier with his team, the first South Carolina representative to make the TOSC championship game.

."It's an absolutely wonderful experience," Arnett said. "Our drive up through the mountains was absolutely beautiful. Then to get here and have such a venue set up, it is really special in the eyes of the kids. That's what it had been about.The tournament director has been outstanding, where we have stayed gave us access to meeting rooms and everyone has just been especially nice."

The teams posed for a post-game photo on the field before beginning their journeys home.

North Springs faced an 18-hour trek back home. Kempinger said his players showed a lot of discipline on such a long trip.

"That first night, we were dead tired," Kempinger said. "We practiced every day and got the kids out of bed early to get their legs and bats going a little bit. They were incredible. They never broke curfew, there was no manhunt for kids.

"They did exactly what they needed to do to win."
