Florida Pokers 11u Win Tamiami New Year’s Bash

Florida Pokers 11u Win Tamiami New Year’s Bash

The Nationally Ranked 11u Florida Pokers went down to Miami to begin their 2011 season in hopes of preparing the team for great spring and summer in the deeply talented New Years Bash Tournament at Tamiami Park @ FIU.  They left Miami  with a 5-1 record, a program defining 5-2 win over the 2010 10u National Champions and the Tournament Championship.

The Pokers returned to competitive action for the first time since their last game at The 2010 Elite World Series last July and came out swinging.  The Pokers run ruled 3 of their 6 opponents in 4 innings on their way to scoring a tournament high 9 runs a game.  Eric Hernandez, Riley Allison, Michael Schuler and Earl Semper led the way with 7 hits over the weekend all batting above .400.  Eric Hernandez led the team with 10 RBI followed by Robert Joy and Caleb Roberts with 7 each.

Defensively, The Pokers played true to their fundamentally sound reputation allowing only 3.6 runs per game.   The pitching efforts of Christian Scott 9 2/3 innings with 0 earned runs, Jake Schultz 5 1/3 innings and 1 earned run and Championship game MVP Alex Creighton 8 innings and 11 strikeouts put The Pokers in perfect shape to make a deep run in the tournament.  Creighton took a no hitter into the bottom of the 6th against the high powered Brawlers and finished with a complete game 1 hit gem that left many at the park in awe.

The Pokers have a full spring summer planned with trips to The East Cobb Battle of the South and Cincinnati Flames Summer Classic in addition to the War on I-4 in Plant City, The Florida Elite 2k in Clearwater, The Georgia / Florida Showdown in Lake City, The Florida 8 in Kissimmee and the AAU National Championship at Disney.

Their next event will be trying to repeat as Champions of The Weston Hawks Preseason Tournament later this month in Weston followed by the always tough West Pines Cobras Heartbreaker Tournament.
