They are all grown up and going places. These players all played with the Broward Canes (1999-2006) one of the 7 teams that formed the FPBL in 2003 and this year they graduate from High School. What a ride !...."one that I will miss for ever" says  Gaspar Palmer  former Broward Canes coach and FPBL President. Having coached most of these kids since they were 7 & 8 years old has giving me many thrills along the way, but seeing  them together again for the first time since '06 was "PRICELESS"

We cried our hearts out when we last played in Dodgertown as a 14u team playing in our last game together. The team was done, after close to 7 years of being together, it was time to let them go. A team that accomplished a lot on and off the field, not only were we able to get off the ground what it is known  today as the FPBL League, but together we won two National Championships, 5-Consecutive FPBL league titles and many tournaments, but for me, it was staying together as a team....a family, that was our biggest accomplishment.

This past Sunday was a re-union of the "Boys" as we used to call them and seeing them together again gave me closure on something that I have treasured for 10 years. It was an experience with kids, parents and coaches that I'll never forget.

They are all accomplished young men on and off the field, they're all playing High School ball and doing very well, I may add. Many of the them are going to play at the next level, Division I ball and there are  rumors that  possibly one or two players may get drafted in this year's MLB June Draft, that's more than what we bargain for, when we started the "ride".

As someone who is a father and a coach all I can say is don't lose the hope and stop trying........ and for the kids that play the game, there is no easy way to get to where you're going, If you want it bad enough, then go get it. There are life lessons to be learn when you play the game of baseball, but as I always said to them "We have taught our kids the game of life through baseball" and looking back, its been a fun ride.

In closing, after seeing all the kids & parents we all went to have dinner at Ruby Tuesday's and what we as Coaches received from one of the player floored me and not that it was surprise, but it was something special.  Chaz Russo gave all the Coaches a framed pic of him that read and I quote him " Thank you for preparing us for HS ball and always trying to make us better" Chaz Russo- West Broward High School.

On Tuesday,  West Broward  played their first High School playoff game against Cooper City and with the score tied at 1-1 Chaz Russo belted a 3-run Home Run to win the game 4-1.

Note: Missing from this group are Coach George Capote, Alexander Cruz who moved to Georgia, Gabby De Varona and Chris Ferguson that were not able to make it to the reunion.
