win the 2011 USSSA New Years Bash Tournament in Tamiami!
The Outlaws 7u entered their second tournament this past weekend in Tamiami and played their second consecutive championship game. After a devastating loss in December at the 2010 USSSA Kendall Craze X, the Outlaws were more hungry than ever and take the Championship home. On Wednesday night, The Outlaws faced a tough Hialeah All Stars team and pulled off a victory with a close 11-10 score. Damian Hernandez hit a Grand Slam sealing the deal for the Outlaws. On Saturday they destroyed the Miami Wolfpack 18-3 knocking them out in the 3rd inning. The Outlaws took the #1 seed by allowing the fewest runs, setting the stage for an amazing run at the title. In the first round on Sunday, the Outlaws faced Team MVP. The young bats came alive as they scored 22 runs and knocked them out in the fourth inning 22-14. Advancing to the Semi Finals, they faced the Miramar Magic which was no match for the Outlaws as they also knocked them out 15-6. This set the stage for the Championship Game vs the Florida Thunder. Two tough and hard hitting teams faced each other in the finals but at the end the Thunder lost its Thunder as they were no match for the Outlaws. The Outlaws defense were lights out as they only allowed 3 runs to the Thunder. Damian Hernandez hit another home run along with his shut down defense secured the win along with the MVP title. The Outlaws knocked out the Thunder in the 4th inning 12-3. The Outlaws played every single game like true champions as they knocked out 4 out of the 5 teams they faced by scoring a total of 78 runs in 5 games. Dominic Sorondo and Anthony Ruiz also hit home runs which produced some punch. Consistent hitting by Nicky Villar, Devin Catoni, Ephraim Bravo, Tito Gomez, Johnny Acosta and Amed Cossio provided a countless runs batted in. Derek Rahim, Marlon Miranda and Jandy Ribot were defensive gems as they robbed the competition. The Outlaws are now an impressive 8-1 in USSSA Tournament games and are looking to add more Championships to their resume. Head Coach Alex Catoni along with his assistant coaches Anibal Villar, Jose Hernandez, Otho Gomes and Lefty Sorondo are very proud of the boys and would like thank thank everyone involved in the organization.
