The 10U Driftwood Knights were crowned FPBL AAA Champions today after a tough, tournament style playoff bracket. Rain delays, and a lot of patience plagued most of this championship Sunday afternoon. One game at a time, quarter finals, semi finals, then championship game in one day. The Knights prevailed over all of their opponents.
US Baseball Select gave the Knights a battle to remember in the quarter-final game. US Baseball lead most of the game until the Knights fought through their obstacles and squeezed out a win by one run in the last inning, winning it 6-5 when Ray Rivera hits a 2 RBI shot to the outfield sealing the game for the Knights.
The semi-final game boasted a hungry Crush Baseball Club team that fought back from a 5-2 deficit to take a lead over the Knights, 6-5, in the 3rd inning. The Knight pulled it together and never looked back, winning it 11-6. Alex Martinez’s 2 RBI single put the lights out on the Crush.
After an exhausting day, the Boca Bombers and Driftwood Knights squared off in the championship game. The top 2 seeded teams in the league battled through cramps and borderline dehydration to see who would be crowned champion. In the end, the knights won it behind the pitching of Christian Castillo and Max Martinez, 11-2.
