The Sugar Canes 11u Baseball team traveled to Columbus, Ohio June 3-6 and defeated several nationally ranked teams on their way to capturing the Super Nit in Columbus. With their victory the Sugar Canes secured a berth to the Elite 32 World Series. The Sugar Canes started out the tournament by shutting out the Central Ohio Outlaws 8-0 in their first seeding game. In the second game, the Sugar Canes faced the Cincy Flames who came into the tournament holding the 10th spot on the Travel Ball Select national ranking list. The Sugar Canes holding the 14 spot on the same ranking list took early control of the game and cruised to a 9-6 victory in their final seeding game. Elimination would have the Sugar Canes and Flames playing arguably the best game of the tournament. The Flames held a 3-1 lead going into the 4th inning. Playing with a 1 1/2 hour time limit the Sugar Cane bats began to flex its muscle. A key double play from Nathaniel Brodsky and Xavier Edwards shifted the momentum of the game. The Canes were able to rally for 2 runs in each of the final 2 innings and close out the Flames 5-4. In the Semi Finals the Sugar Canes faced the Athletic Republic nationally ranked #1 by USSSA in points and #5 by Travel Ball Select. Scoring 3 in the first and 2 in the second the Sugar Canes never let the Republic gets its offense going. Sugar Canes pitcher Havier Sans went the distance allowing 4 hits to Republic hitters for a final score of 5-1. With the Elite 32 World Series berth on the line the Sugar Canes were clicking on all cylinders. Angel Tiburcio started the championship game for the Sugar Canes and contained the Beaver Valley Red offense. The Sugar Canes defeated Beaver Valley 8 - 0 to earn the championship. The Sugar Canes offense was led by Raymond Sanchez, Alex Nicholaou, Xavier Edwards, Nathaniel Brodsky, and Kevin Manzanet. Sugar Cane hitters combined for 14 extra base hits. Sanchez and Nicholaou combined hit 5 or 6 balls at least 275ft. The Sugar Cane pitchers Joseph Corona, Jacob Mercado, Havier Sans, Kevin Manzanet, Angel Tiburcio, & Shelby Frazier were the difference giving up only 11 runs in 5 games. Sugar Cane pitchers combined to walk just 8 batters during the 5 games and recorded 26 strikeouts. The defense turned 5 double plays and was led by Nathaniel Brodsky, Xavier Edwards, Lance Hatten, Shelby Frazier, Jacob Mercado, and AJ Evans catching.
