The Weston Hawks Black 10 U coached by Ozzie Durant, Jay Kreutzer and Brad Leff won their 10 U South Int'l division championship on November 13, a very impressive feat considering this is a first year team with a majority of players new to travel baseball.
The Hawks were able to beat a very tough Miramar Canes team 10-8 in the first game. This was followed by a 7-5 win in the 2nd game over the top seeded Coral Springs Sea Dogs. The championship game was an incredible one that lasted 9 innings and didn’t end until after 9:30 PM. The Hawks were able to hang on and beat the Plantation Stars 8-7 after 3 innings of tiebreakers. The Hawks were at the fields for over 13 hours that day and showed some amazing resiliency in holding off the very tough #2 seeded Stars.
The Stars had come back from 5-3 deficit in the 5th and also tied it 6-6 in the 6th to force the tie breaker and each team played amazing defense and had incredible pitching in the extra frames. The game finally ended after the Stars had the bases loaded with the tying run on 3rd and winning run on 2nd and a full count on the last batter, before the game was finally decided.
Both teams will represent the 10 U south International Division next weekend in Lantana to face their counterparts from the North.
