What Happens in the Bahamas...Stays in the Bahamas !
Pembroke Pines, FL.
What better way to end your summer ball than a trip to the Bahamas. It was a weekend where baseball took a back seat for 26 teams in the Island of Freeport, Grand Bahamas. The Grand Bahamas Sports Festival was held this past weekend and it was something that many of the teams did not expect, but when it was all done......Oh boy what a weekend!
The event was sponsored by the Grand Bahamas Power Company and ran by event organizer Mario Signorello. The weather although extremely hot on all three days was beautiful for just about anything you wanted to do.
Teams arrived on Thursday via a ferry that departed from Ft. Lauderdale carrying 450 passengers. Games were played on Friday, Saturday and Championship games were played on Sunday.........but that was just small part of the event.
The atmosphere surrounding the games is what made this event a fun and successful. With a few issues on the first day and not sure what to expect in a country were time is not as critical as it is here, in the states, we finally figure it out by day two, with the mood mode that was Island style...and what is Island style, well if is not on time it doesn't matter, don't worry "Mon" with a Bahama Mamma or any other Island drink, beer or even a Conch Salad while the local DJ plays Island music time really moves slow and that baseball game really goes by fast.....this was a party for all Involved were baseball didn't matter....not one complaint in any of the games, not an issue with Ump calls and not even worry about who won the game, so was this a baseball tournament you asked......nah mon, it was a typical Island Sports Event....music, food and good times and as far as who won the Tournament.......It doesn't matter, "What Happens in the Bahamas stays in the Bahamas"
Event Organizer, Mario Signorello will be at our Managers Meeting, so for more Info on this event for next year.....ask Mario.
