The Coconut Creek Hawks were not even planning on playing in this event, but it took a call from me to Coach Ed Mercado and a litte bit of convincing him to play. The first game was moved to Friday because he couldn't play on the day he was scheduled and that meant that he would have to face two pretty good teams, the Outlaws and Team Miami Prospects...well he handled the Prospects pretty good and won that game........the Outlaws was not a contest as they were hit pretty hard, but that was a pool game and as some coaches say, that is not a true barometer on how good the team is in tournament play and in the Hawks case they are right.
The Hawks go into Bracket play and face the team that won the Weston Hawks Winter Warm-up Tournament just a couple of weeks ago in Miami Baseball and they beat them and that was a shock not just to me but all of the 11u Division coaches, because the Miami Baseball team is a pretty good team, but we move on now, they go up again against another TbS/Nations baseball recent Tournament Champion in the Allstars, they too won the New Years Bash Tournament about a month or so ago........so the Allstars go down 11-3 now we are all saying who do they have in their roster..........did they bring any ringers? no, not at all they are playing with 9 players due to some of their players being hurt and sick, so can they pull it off againts the Elite Squad Outlaws......this was as big of a task as those other two teams they beat were pretty solid, but this time the boys may have been a bit tired or overwhelmed with what they had done on this day. The Outlaws went on to defeat the CC Hawks and win the Championship.
It was quite a ride for the Coconut Creek Hawks. Congratulations to the Hawks, Players and Parents.
