12U West Pines Cobras wins Columbus Day Shoout Out..............Elite Squad falls to Rockets
The Tournament is finally coming to an end this weekend, after being suspended last weekend because of rain. The 12U West Pines Cobras defeated the PBG Predators in a very tight game 3-2 while in other games the 9U Wellington Warriors-Gold beat their cross town rival PBG Thunder 7-6. Over in the 10U Division the match between the FPBL team vs the TC Team went to the TC Division team as the West Boyton Gators edged out the Piranaz 2-1
In a bit of a disappointment the 14U FPBL Elite Squad went down to the Palm Beach Rockets 6-4. The Squad jumped on the Rockets in the first Inning, when Danny Pardo, Javier Aguilar and Anthony Penas had consecutive hits and scored two runs. The Rockets quickly scored as starting pitcher Danny Pardo was bit wild walking the first three batters face, but the first batter to reach base was picked off at first. The walks really hurt us today, says Coach Palmer. Palm Beach Rockets 4th batter Ron Healy wasted no time and made us pay for the walks as he blasted a pitch over the left center field wall to give the Rockets a 3-2 lead.
The game would remain 3-2 until the top of fifth inning , when we managed to tie the game at 3-3 with a base on balls to Jordan Budwig, Jordan was pinch run for by Alec Byrd and a well executed bunt by Richie Naylor put the tying run at second base. A passed ball by the Rockets catcher lead the cause for Luis Guillermo deep fly ball that would tied the game at 3-3, but the Squad would squander another opportunity in the same inning as steady player Javy Aguilar would strike out stranding two runners on base.
The Squad went to Zack Collins in relief of Danny Pardo, but the Rockets were not about to be denied. Patrick Pinak lead off the Inning with base hit that would take a bad hop at third base and bounce over Penas head for a base hit, a well hit ball to left field was misplayed by the Squad outfielder and that lead to the Rockets go ahead run, but a few well executed squeezed plays allowed the Rockets to take a commanding lead into the last Inning.
The Squad hopes were alive, when Anthony Pena was walked and Zack Collins followed with a one hop blast to the fence to put runners on 2nd & 3rd with no-outs, a passed ball allowed the Squad 4th run, but the very next play would doom the hopes of any comeback by the Squad. With runners on 1st & 3rd and no outs a hard hit ball to third base hugging the line by Alex Metallides caught our runner in no man's land as he was tagged out deflating the Squad's hope of a comeback. The next batter would fly out and the last out was made on hard ball hit by Cody Newell to end the game.
The PB Rockets defeated the Squad, but had their hands full with Palm Beach Cardinals as the two would duke it out in the Championship Game with the Cardinals taking it 3-2.....................Congratulations to all !!
In what could be a showdown of Cooperstown Champion and Runner-up the West Boyton Wolverines will probably face the Miramar Canes if they both win their semifinal games today.
