Wellington Warriors 9u baseball team finished 3rd in the Fall Nationals in St. Augustine Florida. Wellington advanced in pool play with a 3-0 record. The Warriors went into the elimination rounds as the number 1 seed, not having surrendered a run in the first 3 games. With scores of 14-0, 19-0, and 10-0 the Warriors looked a little stronger than their opponents.
The Warriors looked primed and ready to make a run at their first National Championship. In the semi finals the Warriors found themselves matched up against a strong team from Jacksonville, Fl the Mizuno Glory Baseball team. Mizuno came into the matchup having played some tough competition in the other bracket. The Mizuno team came into the tournament with plenty of experience. Several players from this team played in the Summer National Championships held in Orlando. This group previously defeated the Warriors 6-5 in extra innings to finish in 3rd place in Orlando. The Warriors jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with great pitching from Nick "mailbox" Adams. The Warriors looked pretty strong on defense in the early going as well. But the Mizuno Glory Baseball team was not to be denied. The Warriors squandered several opportunities to score a few more runs in the first few inings, with some costly base running mistakes. That was all Glory needed as they rallied for 7 runs in the top of the 3rd inning. These were the first runs the Warriors had given up all tournament. The Warriors were never able to recover and would eventually lose 11-5. Mizuno went on to defeat the Miami Legends 7-4 in the Champioship game in St. Augustine. The Warriors had a number of highlights during the course of the tournament. The team put up a great effort, but fell short. Representing the FPBL was an honor. We look forward to competing and hopefully winning a National Championships for our team and league. Congratulations on a fine tournament. Go Florida Premier!!!
