9U Warriors vs Warriors...............Battle of the Giants !!
Last season as an 8U team they both met in the Championship Game, with the Wellington Warriors-Purple coming on top and this season between the two teams they have won 25 games of the 28 they've played and it looks like they may be there again this season.
In a battle between the 2 Wellington teams, the Wellington Warriors purple came out on top. Both teams entered the game riding winning streaks. The Wellington Warriors gold just came off a great weekend having defeated the Davie Bears and the Miramar Canes.
The Wellington Warriors purple came into the game riding a 9 game unbeaten streak. This was a hotly contested ball game. The Wellington Warriors purple got out to an early 3-1 lead with some great situational hitting and aggressive base running. The Warriors were led by Jacob Mercado who hit the ball hard each time up. Jacob had a monster double in the ballgame. The Warriors were also led by Xavier Edwards who hit a huge triple and was thrown out at the plate on a great relay throw from Myles Cohen. The Warriors gold battled themselves back into the ball game with some timely hitting of there own. Again Myles Cohen was in the middle of the rally for the gold with a line drive single. Krishna added a hit as did Dave Rodriguez. After taking a 5-4 lead the Warriors gold pitchers had a difficult time finding the strike zone.
The Wellington Warriors purple began to flex their muscle with some timely hitting and good base running. Ethan Levi singled driving in some runs and Jacob Weiss drove in a run against a drawn in infield. Going into the last inning the Warriors purple were leading 12-6. The Warriors gold never gave up. Coach Barry Cohen rallied the troops. The Warriors gold rallied for 5 runs off the Wellington purple closer Xavier Edwards. With some timely hitting and some shaky defense by the purple, the tying run came to the plate with one out and a man on third and the number 4 hitter coming up to the plate. Wellington purple inserts TJ. McKenzie into the game to get the final outs. With Myles Cohen on Third with one out. Krishna hits a line drive to shortstop Xavier Edwards who throws to Jacob Mercado at third to double off Cohen and end the game.
The Wellington gold has come a long way since their last encounter with the Wellington purple. These 2 teams look very prepared as we approach the playoffs. Good luck and we will see you on the field. Go Warriors!!!!!
