wins the "Battle of the South" USSSA Tournament in
Wellington.
Boca Thunder 12U Baseball came out victorious in the USSSA tournament
held on January 15-18, hosted by the Wellington Warriors. The Thunder lost their
first seeding game but won their next 4 games to win the championship. In the
first game of elimination play the Thunder played the Okeeheelee Legends and
were down early but fought back to tie the game and send it into extra innings.
The game went two extra innings before the Thunder pulled out a thrilling 7-6
victory. The next elimination game was against the number one seed West Boynton
Tornadoes. Once again the Thunder had to play from behind as the Tornadoes
jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. The Thunder entered the
lasting trailing by one run. The Thunder showed their toughness and heart by
scoring 4 runs against the Tornadoes. The Thunder then held the Tornadoes
scoreless in the bottom of the sixth to win the game 7-4 and move onto the
championship game. In the title game the Thunder faced the tough and determined
Miramar Canes. The Canes had knocked off the other top seed, the West Pines
Cobras, in an exciting one run game. The Thunder scored first as they built a
6-0 lead. The Canes would not go down easy as they battled back and cut into the
lead. The Thunder managed to hold off the Canes and win 9-6 to claim the title.
