Family & Friends pay respect to a friend...................Dean Lockwood
Although he is gone, he will always be remembered in our league and in our hearts. Family and friends could not believe that a young kid, 15 years old with a big heart and a bright future ahead is no longer with us. Family, Teachers, Coaches Friends, Buddies came out to say goodbye.
Dean will always be remember for his heart, spirit and passion for the game of baseball. A kid whom I had the pleasure of watching him play in a weekend tournament, but that's all i need it to see. He had the talent, but most of all his humbleness around others his passion for the game, the one thing that he looked for that gave him a sense of peace and happiness. His talent and skills in the baseball field was one that wouldn't go unnoticed, his desired to compete was one that only the great ones have, his ability to play where ever he was put was a sign of a ball player................I can remember the game we lost in Ft Meyers, the USA event the one that he was given an opportunity to try-out for the USA National team. In this tournament we lost to the SF Snappers a team from Miami that had probably one of the most talented group of players that I have seen in a squad, yet after losing the game in pool play Dean goes up to the Coaches, Ed Marti, Mike Koos and Richie Palmer and says coach when we see them again in the Championship Game I want the ball.................that was Dean Lockwood, the player that wanted to compete and always felt that he could win If he was given a chance, well Dean got his chance against the SF Snappers and as he always did, he found a way to win, Dean not known to be a pitcher although he did what was asked of him, Dean pitched the FPBL Elite Squad to 1-0 win over the SF Snappers a complete game and was chosen to the USA National Team.
Dean went on to play for the USA National team and represented his country in Puerto Rico, the team won the gold medal and on his last day on earth Dean wore his USA shirt.....................We will miss his talent and skills, but most of all we will miss Dean Lockwood.
